Intermix and Interchangeability
Griplok tube fittings are designed, manufactured, quality controlled and distributed to be totally “interchangeable”with the Hoke® Gyrolok® brand of tube fittings. Component by component examination plainly shows the two brands as completely “component-intermixable". The precision manufacturing of both products to stringent tolerances under rigid quality control procedures ensures the safety, performance and reliability of service whenever Gyrolok and Griplok component parts are mixed and used in accordance with published installation and service.
Griplok Technology
Griplok tube fittings use a two-ferrule design with sophisticated geometry, precise machining, unsurpassed material quality, to provide a leak-tight remakeable seals even in applications having high vibration and extreme
temperature changes. This leak tight seal and gripping action is the result of the sequential interaction of the nut, the front and back ferruls, the body, and the tubing.
1. The tube fitting nut advances the rear ferrule toward the front ferrule.
2. As the rear ferrule begins to drive the front ferrule, the rear ferrule and front ferrule interact tilting the rear ferrule forward and forcing the leading edge of the rear ferrule inward to slightly deform the tubing in order to lock onto the tubing. This gripping action prevents overstressing the tubing, which can cause tubing failure and possible injury.
3. As the rear ferrule drives the font ferrule forward, the outside diameter of the front ferrule comes in contact with the tapered inside diameter of the tube fitting. This interaction polishes the outside surface of the front ferrule and the inside surface of the body forming a leak-tight seal. At the same time the front edge of the ferrule is driven onto the tubing, slightly deforming the tubing in order to grip the tubing and create a leak-tight seal between the the ferrule and the tubing. The gripping action enables Griplok tube fittings to maintain a reliable seal in high-pressure and high vibration applications.
4. As the ferrule grips the tubing, the nut is able to drive the tubing forward to form a secondary seal as the end of the tubing is driven against the base of the tube socket. This secondary seal enables Griplok tube fittings to better compensate for scratches and other tubing variations. A slight taper in the tube socket shoulder reduces tube sticking on disassembly and supports remakeability.
Materials
Griplok tube fitting straight configuration are machined from type 316 stainless steel cold-finished bar stock in accordance with ASTM A-276 and ASTM A-479. Elbows, tees and crosses, are machined from close-grained 316 stainless steel forgings in accordance with ASTM A-182. All 316 stainless steel. Griplok tube fitting components are heat code traceable with certified material test reports (CMTRs) are available. More information about Griplok materials.
Packaging
Griplok tube fittings are individually bagged to assure the highest levels of quality, safety and cleanliness. The protective bags eliminate contamination (tubing burrs, dirt, etc.) from entering the fitting prior to its use, and help to retain the integrity of the factory assembled body, nut, and ferrules.
As long as a Griplok tube fitting is in its original protective bag, it is identified as "factory new," completely assembled and ready for installation. The individually baggedtube fittings are packaged in convenient, small-lot quantities for easy procurement and handling. Additionally, for efficient product identification and storage, the boxes are color-coded to the material of construction and have pictorial labels which include the part number, product
